News of the World is the sixth studio album by the British rock band Queen, released on 28 October 1977 by EMI Records in the United Kingdom and by Elektra Records in the United States. News of the World was the band's second album to be recorded at Sarm West and Wessex Studios, London, and engineered by Mike Stone, and was co-produced by the band and Stone.

On the 40th anniversary of the album’s original release, here are 10 things you probably didn’t know about News of the World. 1. The album was primarily recorded in the same studio where the Sex Pistols were finishing Never Mind the Bollocks, leading to some memorable encounters between the two bands. Most of News of the World‘s tracks were cut at London’s Wessex Studios, an arrangement which put the band on a collision course with British punks the Sex Pistols, who were working in the same studio complex on their landmark debut album. 8. Sleeping on the Sidewalk is the only song in the entire Queen catalog to be recorded in a single take. Despite their reputation for studio excess, Queen recorded and mixed News of the World in a relatively short period of time, taking only 10 weeks to complete the LP. (A Day at the Races had taken five months.

A special box set of Queen's landmark 1977 album News of the World is set for release towards the end of this year, marking the 40th anniversary of the original release. This lavish new package has a worldwide release date of November 17th. This one-hour documentary includes superb live footage of Queen at the Houston Summit in December. We also see moments from the birth of We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions, songs that would both earn a place in the Grammy Hall of Fame. In fact, the album was more in step with the punk scene than the output of most superstar acts of the time, as it contains Roger Taylor's furious "Sheer Heart Attack" and Freddie Mercury's lean, brutal "Get Down, Make Love. Of course, News is famous for its opening medley, "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions. Attend any sports event in the Western world, and you'll hear the former. If it's a championship match and the home team wins, you'll hear the latter.

A special box set of Queen's landmark 1977 album News of the World is here, marking the 40th anniversary of the original release. The new package includes the original album on CD, plus two further CDs of recently unearthed out-takes and rarities from the band's archives, one of which is a newly created ‘alternative’ version of the whole album – Raw Sessions. For many Queen devotees, this Raw Sessions CD will be the most intriguing component of the new release. Mined deep from long-vaulted studio multi-track tapes, this extraordinary parallel album brings to light never-before-heard.
