Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, the two electronic composers who have scored both seasons of Stranger Things, don’t have that problem. Their lush, deep music gave the show’s first season a crucial emotional dimension, and their second time around once again steers away from cliché, maintaining the pace they’ve set for themselves while subtly shifting tactics just enough to keep fans hooked. The pitch-perfect genre influences that made both S U R V I V E and Dixon and Stein’s first-season soundtrack immediately relatable for ‘80s synth buffs are front and center, yet again, on Stranger Things 2. You can hear echoes of Tangerine Dream and John Carpenter, as well as the ethereal unease of Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells, Part. 1 (also known as the theme to The Exorcist) and Mark Snow’s X-Files score.

Playing now for 2nd time; minimal surface noise...a few glitches & ticks but not too distracting...Overall a nice dynamic recording, seems not to be compressed like most modern releases are (especially CD versions)
Marige Marige
I'm not even an audiophile, yet I notice when the sound is sometimes "higher" than the surface of the disk...
Kelezel Kelezel
can someone confirm the Invada CD's are actually CDR's ?
Milleynti Milleynti
Pretty sure mine's a regular CD, however I'm also pretty sure that my copy of Invada's Stranger Things 2 is a CD-R (ordered it directly from them too).
Onath Onath
Quality is good for this pressing ? better than the first press ?
Cobandis Cobandis
For all you guys complaining about the quality control issues, just buy the regular black vinyl release:Stranger Things - Volume One (A Netflix Original Series)Beautifully quiet pressing with a powerful dynamic sound.Sure, it's only on boring black vinyl. But unless you like staring at your records while you play them, I don't see an issue.
Unnis Unnis
Amazed at some of the comments on here about the sound quality being good. I have heard three copies of this (the "aqua" splatter version) and it is awful-riddled with non-fill and pops. Would love to get a copy of it without it.
Lost Python Lost Python
Cleaned my copy with a vacuum cleaner and it is near perfect with next to no surface noise. I do think that the sound is ever so slightly dulled & flat which may or may not be because its pressed to red & blue vinyl.
Alsalar Alsalar
More pop, not a audiophil vinyl....Its always the same for Invada Record...
Malara Malara
Great sound but bad pressing...some pop, crack (like all invada pressing...) what a shame....don't buy invada pressing...it always bad
Landaron Landaron
Hilarious that the cassette versions of this soundtrack are a million times better in terms of sound quality than the splatter LPs which look great but sound absolutely awful. The cassettes are chrome high quality and after 3 attempts to get the LPs without them sounding dreadful I am now very happy to have this fantastic soundtrack on a format I like!
Nargas Nargas
My copy is excellent. I have a pretty nice set up with an ortofon needle, and sometimes I wonder if its more people's players. All four sides sound great and clear and this type of music would make flaws obvious. Nice pressing and great unique package overall that goes with the shows theme IMHO. I'm into the spooky vinyl from the upside down.

I started collecting records in the mid 90s. Certainly over these past 6-8 years things have changed a lot (more and more so daily), and there are a wealth of reissues, and new issues on the market. The problem of course is quality control has gotten very bad, and it's become a crap-shoot buying them. Almost all of the 90's/early 00s punk, and metal stuff I have that I bought back then sounds just fine. Maybe the music on the discs is questionable, but in terms of defects, almost none. Now I've certainly been tempted by many a recent re-issue, and have preordered, or bought early, many things I wish I hadn't. Among those, nothing more so than these pieces of crap :(I have avoided all the newer, costlier OST for the most part (even though many look cool), but as an 80s kid, a sci-fi kid, as well as an ambient listener, I really wanted these. I pre-ordered the smoke/swirl volume one. Warped, noisy, sent back. Next copy, same but less so. They sent one more on the house, still haven't opened. Dumb-ass completionist that I am, when volume two came up for sale, pre-ordered it too hoping it would 'be okay this time'. Nope, same shit. First one really warped, noisy, sent back, replacement same but less so. Now I happen to look through these comments and see it's still the same, maybe worse with the 3rd, maybe 4th issues? It really is an easy fix, we just stop buying this shit. Of course that's easy to say about the stuff you don't give a crap about (which is 99% of releases). But every one of those is the 1% sweet-spot for someone. Many labels are putting out shit, they know it's shit, and they don't care because the reality is probably more than half of the people buying these are either not ever going to play them, or are playing them on novelty equipment and expect all the noise/defects to be part of the fun, or something akin to that. There are people out there specifically making records that are intended as quality source material, but they are the minority right now. The fact they keep issuing new sets & new colors over and over again (believe there's another round coming), and they seem to keep sounding worse, says a lot. The fact that you can buy these types of releases in little kiosks in malls, and latte-centric bookstores (almost literally as a novelty item in a novelty section/stand) is a good hint that these manufacturers aren't playing to an 'audiophile' type of market. It is what it is, and I don't think any of us should expect this stuff to be of high quality anymore, it just isn't. It's like (if you're old enough to remember) the end-cap stands of budget records in 70s/80's department stores. Budget comps, lots of picture disc OST, K-tel box-sets, that kind of thing. And even that junk holds up better than some of these will. Plus, back then there was a difference between a proper label LP, and the novelty stuff, and the novelty stuff was almost always budget. Now of course you're gonna pay around $70 shipped for a couple of these novelty LPs, so there's that :)

Surface noise everywhere- same with vol 2 of collectors edition. Beautiful packaging. Good music. But horrible to listen to.
Samulkree Samulkree
My glow-in-the-dark pressing has so much noise that I went and got a refund. Ordered through MerchNow who ignored all my emails and calls. Horrible company. Sad to see so many people have noise issues with this release.
Zinnthi Zinnthi
I expected VMP to do an exclusive jacket for this, a tad disappointing. Maybe Mondo would do a release.
Chi Chi
A little bit of surface noise but overall a very solid pressing
Ygglune Ygglune
Physical - Spindle holes too tight, some warping that luckily doesn't effect playbackAuditory - Dead quiet, powerful bottom end, crystal clear separation
Inth Inth
Just bought this version and the sound quality is perfectly fine. Not sure why described as a mispress.
Celore Celore
My copy has a perfect sound quality, I think the nature of the misprint was just the color of the vinyl.EDIT: Is not a mispress! -> http://www.invada.co.uk/collections/all-products/products/stranger-things-volume-1-ost-retail-variant-pre-sale-half-red-half-blue-coloured-transparent-vinyl
Laizel Laizel
For me the sound quality is fine an so is the quality of the Vinyl itself and packaging. An amazing series and now I got the Amazing soundtrack on vinyl to go with that, brilliant.
Dianaghma Dianaghma
I feel like mispress is a bit harsh for this specific release. I have this version and mine plays with clarity and no surface noise whatsoever..
Gravelblade Gravelblade
The beginning and end of my side B is a poor quality pressing, which is unfortunate. Happily the rest of this album - especially the amazing side C - sounds great.
Prinna Prinna
Disc 1 Side A of mine played fine, and then clocks and pops audible throughout 1B. Bummed.
Linn Linn
Anyone else had problems with the sound? All my other records play fine but this has a lot of scratching and popping sounds even though I bought it new and sealed.
DART-SKRIMER DART-SKRIMER
Thanks! I'll bring it to a friend and try it there to see if it's the record or my player which can't handle it for some reason. Volume 2 played without trouble.
Nenayally Nenayally
Mine sounds absolutely perfect. I find that Invada always offer amazing pressings.
Deorro Deorro
Nature of mispress: Side 2, track 1 has noise running through it. It is so bad that I took my copy straight back to HMV
Kison Kison
I have the same issue. side 2 track 1 so definitely a few mispress copies floating around.
tamada tamada
craigeduk is correct. I have just ordered mine from the Invada website of the mail order variant as of writing. They clearly state that they will keep all variants in print as long as there is demand. No need to pay silly prices on here.
Not-the-Same Not-the-Same
I have this one, it's the only version I can find that is one red and one blue. Is it a misprint?
MilsoN MilsoN
I got a pretty clean copy, little surface noise and clear, crisp sound. Great job on the pressing, beautiful colored vinyl as well.
Terr Terr
This record has 2 colour vinyls : blue for the first vinylred for the second
Marad Marad
I wont lie I was really disappointed. - the music is although well crafted, dull as dishwater. Apart from the superb opening title sequence which is stellar, the rest didn't hold my attention at all. maybe i'll let it sink in and come back to it later.the sleeve and the record were well presented with some nice picture inserts. Record one was a little crackly and had a nice warping with it. But in all the sound was very crisp and very clear. I wont deny for a moment that the music when matched with the show is definitely at its best, but on its own, its a 'no' for me..Shame
Ausstan Ausstan
I noticed that my pressing of this is not red and black swirl, but a red with a super dark blue. Holding up to a light, the most glorious colors are visible. I will try to post a picture of my copy later today. #100/511
Vareyma Vareyma
My copy has the One Red / One Blue discs. Not 50/50. Haven't listened to the whole thing yet.But it does sound like a lot of surface noise. Do you know if they will replace these misprints?
The Sinners from Mitar The Sinners from Mitar
I'm only going to echo those who've commented before me but this is a stunner. Beautiful to look at and absolutely masterful mastering. Massive shout to Invada on the QC for this.
Juce Juce
Absolutely masterful pressing quality on this version. I never get records pressed at this quality...I'm honestly blown away. Packaging is perfect, the record is beautiful, and the music is fantastic for any synth heads out there. Tasty.
Mr.jeka Mr.jeka
My copy has a ton of surface noise and pops.
Hulis Hulis
The D side has the label of D side from vol 2. Anyone else get this mis labeling?
Rrinel Rrinel
Mine has the same incorrect label, some of the 511 pressed have the correct label, some don't.
Qag Qag
Also added a picture of side D in the images. Anyone else's red and blue swirl, not red and black?
Iraraeal Iraraeal
Same here. Kinda Cool, kinda a bummer. wonder if Lakeshore or VMP cares.
Vinainl Vinainl
yup, mine has the same vol 2 label on the D side
Bumand Bumand
I was trucking along listening to this album for the first time and loving every second. The sound is full and well mastered. Then I switched discs to 2, and encountered a TON of surface noise and playing issues on Side C. I can't see anything wrong with the disc. No warping, visible scuffing or scratching. It is downright hard to listen to though. The crackling and popping on that side are unbearable. Was this a pressing issue?
Άνουβις Άνουβις
Easily one of the most perfect LP in my collection. Sound is gorgeous, wide and crisp as this music deserves. No static, no pops, no noise, no distorsion. And the discs are beautiful. This a wonderful version.
fire dancer fire dancer
Are we sure this version is limited to 500? I was just on hottopic.com and they are still available and it also doesn't say limited to 500 on the site. Can anyone clarify this?
terostr terostr
It is. There's just so many different varients they haven't all sold out yet.
Sarin Sarin
I reached out to Hot Topic directly and asked them this. They confirmed -- YES, this is a limited pressing of 500 with no plans to repress as of now.
tref tref
Is anyone else a little dissatisfied with this as a standalone album? I know it was great with the show, it fit well and helped create that '80s vibe they wanted to lift from Tangerine Dream and Carpenter scores...but it just doesn't do it for me like Tangerine Dream or Carpenter records do. It doesn't even half-way compare to what Carpenter achieved with his scores. Tangerine Dream and Carpenter albums/scores are what I grew up on, so I think they are untouchable - and even with all the faults people can point out in their scores, they at least were decent to great standalone records. I've spun Stranger Things vol 1 three times now, and it has become more dull with each spin. Am I alone here? Or was the hype of the show what propelled this into be so incredibly anticipated, regardless of the music itself? And I promise - I'm not trying to be a hipster here and just down something because its currently popular. I know these guys are talented. I think their self-titled album is brilliant!
Flash_back Flash_back
Don't pay the inflated prices for a copy on here. Although it's currently sold out on their website Invada have stated that they will be keeping it n print and it will be back on sale there shortly.
Goldendragon Goldendragon
How does this pressing sound? Does anyone have it yet?
HyderCraft HyderCraft
My copy sounds very good with no obvious surface noise. I'm actually surprised how quiet the background is on my modest setup. Maybe there is a good chance that they all sound good since it is a small pressing of 500.
Folsa Folsa
Does yours have any black in the clear? My copy is that way and I haven't seen any others that way
Dellevar Dellevar
Mine sounds great! Clear as can be. Kinda wish I would have got another color variant though considering the "limited edition" aspect of this is essentially worthless with all the other limited variants.
Anararius Anararius
I ordered via Amazon and was told my shipment is delayed with no information on a future delivery date.
Gardataur Gardataur
How's this pressing sound? My Barnes and Noble variant sounds pretty terrible...
Tam Tam
Mine sounds great all the way through, though I can't speak to the pressing as a whole.
dermeco dermeco
I got a lot of pops and noise throughout Disc 1, side A even after cleaning. Huge disappointment on the quality of this pressing. Is this a problem with swirled vinyl in general or a Lakeshore issue? Is the standard black vinyl any better?
Topmen Topmen
Not great in my opinion. You can hear some noise at times. It's also a very light vinyl...
luisRED luisRED
I haven't heard the Barnes and Noble variant yet but plan to pick one up today, I'll pay extra attention when I spin it but I do already have the Relapse Records exclusive Translucent Red and it sounds awesome. I didn't expect it but was impressed how good it sounded, it was also super clean right out of the jacket I almost didn't even bother passing a brush over it before spinning.
Agarus Agarus
Anyone else think this pressing sounds awful? It was so off that I considered my stylus might need changing... put another album on and it sounded fine.
Darksinger Darksinger
My copy has no flaws at all. No noise or anything. Pretty sure it's the Barnes & Noble one since the VMP is supposedly numbered but I have not seen pictures to compare to what I have. From the description it sounds like both are the same red and black swirl vinyl. Again, if not, I'd love to see good pics to compare.
Marilore Marilore
1000%. I returned my copy for a refund. It's a shit pressing.
Contancia Contancia
Same here! Clicks, pops and noise ... :-( Guess they all sound that way.
Andromathris Andromathris
You are talking about the Barnes & Nobles variant as well?
fetish fetish
I feel the same way. I am wondering now to get it replaced by B&N, but I am afraid that I will just run into the same problem. Did you get yours replaced?
Arthunter Arthunter
Really? Mine sounds just fine. I'm gonna have take another listen.
Fenritaur Fenritaur
I think this page is pretty reliable for the variant info. https://slyvinyl.com/genres/soundtrack/survive-stranger-things-ost-volume-one-limited-to-500-translucent-red-2xlp
Quynaus Quynaus
This website seems to indicate that there are 500 and not 1,500 copies (as it says above) of the black smoke edition vinyl. Anyone have more definitive info? http://modern-vinyl.com/2016/09/07/lakeshore-announces-stranger-things-details/
Yramede Yramede
I believe you're right, that it's 500 for this particular variant and 1500 across all three variants that Lakeshore is having pressed. The black vinyl is not a limited (or at least not a significantly small) lot.
sergant sergant
Looks like there are about 10 variants of this vinyl album..
Alister Alister
As of right now there are 12 variants but probably more to come.
Gandree Gandree
Does anyone know how many of this were variants pressed?
HappyLove HappyLove
There were only 511 copies pressed, thats what it said on vmp.
Buriwield Buriwield
The Books A Million green variant is Volume 2 specifically.
blodrayne blodrayne
A lot, not listed here (yet) books a million has a green variant
TheMoonix TheMoonix
I added a couple more pics. as you can see the black smoke only really comes through when light is passing through it. really dark red vinyl.
