By that time, Cuba had already weathered the revolution, the missile crisis, and sweeping reforms throughout the music industry, yet El Trombón Majadero draws heavily on the whimsical and glamorous style of the great orchestras of pre-Revolutionary Cuba. The album titles translates loosely to "the naughty trombone," so it's not surprising that the album focuses as much on lighthearted arrangements and compositions as it does on Jiménez's mastery of his instrument.

Generoso Tojo Jimenez (July 17, 1917 in Cruces, Cuba - September 15, 2007 in Coral Gables, Florida) was a famous Cuban trombone player and a pioneer of Cuban popular music. He was also the trombonist for the legendary Cuban bandleader and singer, Beny More. In 1939, together with flutist, Efrain Loyola and violinist, Gilberto de la Rosa, founded the Orquesta Ritmica. He initially stayed in Cuba after Fidel Castro took over the government in 1959 and recorded in 1965 El Trombon Majadero, considered a classic in Cuban music.

This album is actually a re-release of a recording by trombonist Generoso "El Tojo" Jiménez and his orchestra in Havana's famous EGREM Studios in late 1965. He initially stayed in Cuba after Fidel Castro took over the government in 1959 and recorded in 1965 El Trombon Majadero, considered a classic in Cuban music. He later fell out of favor with the Cuban government and stopped playing the trombone and became a roaming street vendor. In 2003, he was allowed to attend the Grammy ceremony in New York City where one of his records had been nominated. A few months later he returned to the United States and remained.

Generoso Jiménez García (July 17, 1917 – September 15, 2007), commonly known as Tojo, was a Cuban trombonist, bandleader and arranger. He was a member of Beny Moré's Banda Gigante and a frequent collaborator of musicians in the descarga scene such as Cachao. Producer Nat Chediak described Tojo as "the father of the creole trombone". In 1939, together with flautist Efraín Loyola and violinist Gilberto La Rosa, he founded the Orquesta Rítmica
